Vlan Configuration with IP-helper on Procurve 2910al-24g
Hi everyone,
i have a HP Procurve 24port 2910 switch.
i have 5 lan I would like to segregate.
meaning, i will have 5 vlan.
vlan1 - default vlan (mgt) port 1
vlan2 - office - 10.10.1.*/24 port 2-6
vlan3 - library - 10.20.1.*/24 port 7-10
vlan4 - comlab - 10.30.1.*/24 port 11-15
vlan5 - guest - 10.40.1.*/24 port 16-20
vlan6 - guesthome - 10.50.1.*/24port 21-24
I am familiar with creating vlan and assigning addresses, I have already done so.
my vlan config will be
untagged ports for each of the vlan name and numbers all assigned.
question:
1) i want to put my DHCP Server (windows 2003 domain controller) - which happens to be my exchange server as well, on office vlan-2.
(say the address is 10.10.1.10) I created each scopes in the DHCP server, 10.(10-50).1.*
i have also assigned each vlan an address: 10.(10-50).1.1 for each vlan.
I know I am suppose to configure ip helper for each of the vlan, and each of the vlan will connect to vlan2-dhcp server(10.10.1.10) to get IP address for their subnet.
Can you guys guide me as to how i can do the settings for the switch please?
I followed one sample from: http://h40060.www4.hp.com/procurve/uk/en/pdfs/5300xl_dhcp_relay.pdf
but i think if i configure my server gateway to the switch IP, i need to do ip routing (which I don't want/intend to).
any help is appreciated. :)

Re: Vlan Configuration with IP-helper on Procurve 2910al-24g
You need to configure it as mentioned in the document, and if you want you can configure ACL to allow only traffic to the DHCP server between the VLANS

I did follow the configuration from the document, but it's not helping. I am not getting addresses in my other VLANs.

Re: Vlan Configuration with IP-helper on Procurve 2910al-24g
It would help us to see your switch config.
You mention you do not want to do routing on the 2910 switch, however, 'ip helper-address' only works when you have routing on the switch with the 'ip helper-address' command.
