Which 10g Transceiver for 5304 Switch to use?

I've got a 5304 Switch that connects to a 5406 Switch through 62.5 multimode fiber(98% sure on the fiber type).

I want to implement a 10g Module for this, and I have about 500 feet of total run.

Im not sure which to get, so could anyone recommend some Module + Transveiver combonations that will work well for me?

Thanks!

You really need the new LRM transceiver for the type of fiber you have and the distance, unfortunately though, it's not supported in the 5300 series.

Your options from here are to use a different switch (e.g. 4200) or replace the fiber run with single mode fiber.

Looks like Single Mode Fiber is going to be the best option here IMO.

With Single Mode Fiber I can use the 5300 switch I have with the J8988A 10gModule(Transceivers included right?) and the 5400 switch with the J8707A 10G Module and have the option of 3 different Transceivers. Am I Right?

Hi

Option1:
For the 500 feet, you can use the 62.5 ├В┬╡m Multimode fiber cable up to 300 meters.

In this case, modules and transceivers needed:
5400: J8707A module + J8436A transceiver
5300: J8988A module + J8436A transceiver

Option2:
Using Single Mode fiber cable you can use:
5400: J8707A module + J8437A transceiver
5300: J8988A module + J8437A transceiver

I can't see the need of Single mode here for 300 feet, also there is almost 1k $ price difference between single mode and multimode fiber 10G transceivers.

Good Luck !!!

Hey, thanks a lot. That is what I initially thought but was a little confused on whether or not I could use the J8436A transceiver with the J8707A Module on the 5300.

Hold up there a second.

The J8436A is only good for 300 metres if using 50 ├В┬╡m multimode cable.

For 62.5 over that distance you definitely need the LRM which is not supported in the 5300.
