connection on /dev/cul0p2 is not open

This is the error I receive when i dial into another company's modem. I am trying to receive a file from them and after our modem log into their modem, the connection drops, reporting the error connection on /dev/cul0p2 is not open. Please note I am running on a rp5450, hp ux 11.11 utilizing Kermit.
