ioscan brocade switch result
I read the Fabric Migration Guide at http://docs.hp.com/en/J2635-90014/J2635-90014.pdf
In that the ioscan returns a decimal value for the area id from that we have to subtract 16 to get the physical port number(page no:21).
It is because the switch has a fixed 1 in the upper four bits of the area id(0001xxxx).
This is particular to HP UX and Brocade switch. But having that fixed 1 limits the number of ports available to 16(only 4 bits are available for addressing).
I am new to this and I have heard there are Brocade switches with 256 ports.So what is the significance of that fixed 1?
I am not sure this is the right place to ask this question. please help me with this.

as you are talking about a Brocade SAN switch you will probably have more luck in the Storage -> SAN Forum
