j4899B PoE Problem

Hey everyone,

I just got my hands on a 2650/j4899b switch the other day and so far love it! How ever I've done my research and know that this switch is a PoE switch how ever, when I plug anything into any of the ports that is PoE ( ie. ip phone) the device doesn't power on. and when I telnet into the switch and configure interface X power, I get an message back " Error setting value power for port 11"

Any idea why / how I can get this issue fixed?

J4899B does NOT support PoE. J8165A is the version of the 2650 that supports PoE.

If you need to inject power into devices and don't want to replace the entire switch, you can purchase PoE power injectors per device you need to power. HP's 1-port PoE injector is part # J9407B.

Thats odd because when i was researching it on HP's website under the specs to does show the fact it does the 802.3af?

If you could explain why it be saying that it is poe? but its not?

The Quickspecs are generally the overriding document for any specification questions.

There is a version of the switch that does handle PoE as noted on the afforementioned quickspecs, and likely this section was replicated between pages for different models. It's unfortunate and not the first time I've caught such an error on a non-quickspecs HP web page that has misled a customer.

However, it is definite that J4899B is not the "PWR" version of the switch and does not have PoE support.
