redundancy between 3 switches

We have 3 switches 2848, 2610 and 2650. Currently they are connected astral. Any swicth is connected with 1 link to the 2848.
Now, we wanna get a better fail-over connection between them. One link from 2848 to 2610 and to 2650. Last but not least a link between 2610 and 2650. I know this will occure a loop. Therefor I tried to configure it with trunks but, without success.
Could anybody give me good hint ?

Re: redundancy between 3 switches

You need to enable spanning-tree.

Also on the switch you determine to be the core, (2848), you should lower the spanning-tree priority so it becomes the root.

e.g.
2848(config)# spanning-tree priority 1
2848(config)# spanning-tree

2610(config)# spanning-tree

2650(config)# spanning-tree

Re: redundancy between 3 switches

Sounds good..... but, thats all, nothing else ?

When I'm unterstanding that right, the spanning tree is preventing a loop and generates a fail-over ?

Re: redundancy between 3 switches

Yep, it's that simple!

You can use your trunks as well if you want additional performance, but that's about it.

Networking doesn't need to be complicated like some vendors would have you believe.
