That would only reboot the switch. AFAIK to reset you will have to reset everything, including the running config.

Quote from documentation: "Pressing the Clear button on the front of the switch removes password protection."

Re: reset password throw concle

As noted, pressing and holding the "clear" button for appx 1-2 sec will clear any locally configured uid/pw for mgmt access.

However, depending on the switch model, some have the configuration capability to disable the function of pressing/holding the clear button.

If you press/hold the clear and still cannot gain mgmt access, then you can the combo of the reset/clear buttons to execute a factory reset:
1) press and hold the clear button
2) press and release the reset button
3) after (and only after) the "test" LED starts to flash, release the clear button. (depending on the switch model, the "test" LED will start flashing between 2-20sec, wait for it, or you must repeat the sequence again)

The switch can also be configured to not allow a factory reset, but both of these cannot be disabled at the same time, config will not allow it, so you always have at least one access method available.

I personally prefer to disable the "clear" button function only leaving factory reset...that way it is more secure if physical security cannot be achieved (just remember to have a current backup of the config!)
