when you use ProCurve- Switches the PCM is a good variante.
When you only want to monitor it is for free too.
Otherwise there is the possibility to use Nagios.

Hi,

You can use HP Network node manager to monitor any type and number of switches effectively. Also you can check about EMC Smarts product.

Its not free software and you need to get the license from HP. You can download the trial version of NNM and install it which will valid for 60 days(instant-on license).
