I have a 2800 family switch which sometimes when it is "too busy" it simply does not respond to the status polling the Procurve Manager does. As a result an alert is sent out. The IP address of the switch is not set in the default vlan (1) but in a different one. After a while the switch is responding again. This usually happens nightly during backups, it is "normal traffic".
Any ideas on how can I avoid these false alerts? If I use the default vlan 1 for IP monitoring would it be different?
Thanks in advance!

Solution
You can designate the VLAN with the management IP address as a 'management-vlan '. The management-vlan should give higher than usual priority to traffic destined to it.
If you're routing on this switch though you need to be careful as the management-vlan is not routable.

Re: switch (vlan) ip address not responding when too busy
I found some info about this in the AdvTraff guide but it says nothing about priorities.
Thanks for your reply, I will give it a try.

Re: switch (vlan) ip address not responding when too busy
You're right, it is not documented, definitely give it a try though and please let us know your results either way.
