what is better on 3500yl? routed or vlan ACL?

What is better on 3500yl, routed or vlan ACL? I understand from HP support that both are done in hardware. Is this true?
Vlan ACL is only inbound where routed ACL is inbound and outbound. Other switch suppliers often only do hardware ACL in one case.
I need hardware filtering as I don't like someone to flood my router-switch with filtered traffic causing the cpu to raise to 100%.
