12h disk array setup

Need some help in configuring model 12h disk array (C5447A) with 18.2*9 disk with 2 controllers connecting to 1 SCSI bus K370 running with hpux11.00.

setup details
-------------
Disk array cable setup

1) SCSI HBA to Y2
2) Y1 to X1
3) SCSI passive diff terminator X2.

Active controller on Disk array is Y.
created 2 LUN's on diskarray . lun0=8GB and Lun1 around 100G.

but ioscan shows following output
.........
tty 0 10/4/0 mux2 SCAN INTERFACE MUX
ext_bus 1 10/4/4 scsi3 SCAN INTERFACE HP 28696A - Wide SCSI ID=7
unknown -1 10/4/4.5 SCAN UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.0 SCAN UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.1 SCAN UNKNOWN
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.3 SCAN UNKNOWN
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.5 SCAN UNKNOWN
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.7 SCAN UNKNOWN
unknown -1 10/4/4.6 SCAN UNKNOWN
.........

Any thing wrong with the setup ?
do i need to install any driver ?

Any help will be much appretiated.

Thanks,

Re: 12h disk array setup

My best guess is that you have Controllers X and Y set to the same SCSI address. Because they are on a common bus, they must have different SCSI ID's. The SCSI ID's can be checked/changed from the AutoRAID's front panel. My preference would be to have you use two HBA's for greater fault tolerence. If using two external buses, the X and Y Controller addresses can then be the same.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: 12h disk array setup

Yes, on the disk arrary control panel, controller X and Y both showing SCSI ID 5*.

i did attempt to change SCID ID of controller X to 6 but after changes,

in menu->view settings> SCSI ID setting still showing 5* for both controllers.

Any suggestion ?

Re: 12h disk array setup

I think at this point, I would try to set the SCSI ID's with the cables disconnected - both from the HBA and each other. Make sure that you choose an unused ID for each controller; i.e, no other devices on the bus use either ID.

Select "Cntrl Changes" from the front panel main menu. Select "SCSI ID". Select a controller, X or Y. Select SCSI ID (0-15). Select "Reset". Select "Confirm".

That should change the SCSI ID for you.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: 12h disk array setup

just a bit progress..

i had to set the controll X primary first then i did manage to set the controller x to SCSI-12.

but now isocan shows..

ext_bus 1 10/4/4 scsi3 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP 28696A - Wide SCSI ID=7
unknown -1 10/4/4.5 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.5.1 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.12 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.12.0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C5447A
unknown -1 10/4/4.12.1 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C5447A

why all above showing as unknown device ?

Any suggestion ?

Re: 12h disk array setup

This looks better because I can now see SCSI ID 5 and 12. I assume that no other devices on this bus are using those ID's. I suspect that you are now missing the "disc3" driver in the kernel. Using sam, check to see if that driver is "In" and if not, make it so and build a new kernel.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
