2 disk root volume group, 1 of the 2 disks failed.

Hello,
I have a machine with a 2 disk root volume group running RHEL 5.2.
One of the disks is failing with many hardware errors. The root file system is on the failing disk. Half of the lvols are on the failing disk and the other half are on the good disk.

One positive is that none of the lvols are spanning both disks.

I want to remove the failing disk and reinstall Linux. How can I import the disk that is not failing and is the second half of the root volume group? Is it possible to import the logical volumes residing on the good disk?

If you can take a good backup first of the working data. You could try extending the volume group with a new disk, and remove the failed from the VG.

THis is a desktop with only 2 sata connections and unfortunately they are both being used. Also as I said in the post I am getting hardware errors. I am booted from recovery media because the hardware failure put hundreds of files into the root file system lost+found leaving the box unbootable.

I need to start fresh and import the 2nd disk of the root volume group..
