Is there a way to rectify this error. If recreation of domain is the only option left out. Can somebody please tell me about how to do it cautiously by getting the same data back.

Re: ADVFS IO Error

I/O errors normally are produced by a defective block on media. You should start by thinking in replace your disk.

SCSI disks can detect bad blocks and automatically mark them so they won't be used anymore.

You can run the /sbin/advfs/verify command to verify the domain consistence.

If you want to replace the disk, you have to use vdump to save the data and then vrestore.

See the section "Recovering Data from a Corrupted root Domain" in the Tru64 Unix AdvFS Administration.
