Abort the startup sequence?

I feel silly asking this after so many years of sysadmin work, but...

1) Is there a way to abort the HP-UX startup sequence (the /sbin/rc script) from the console?

2) Is there a way to pause it?

3) Is there a way to login to the system before /sbin/rc has finished running?

I know that a Ctrl-C will kill *some* of the /sbin/init.d scripts as they are running, but that's not what I'm after. For the purposes of this post, I'm dealing with both 11.23 and 11.31.

Shalom,

1) No, edit /etc/inittab before the boot is a good way.

2) No, though ctrl-alt\ (check me on that maybe ctrl-alt/) will skip a hung start up script when done from the console.

3) Better you plan your boot according to need with changes to /etc/inittab Then you can manipulate the process by renaming softlinks.

It's Ctrl-\ (or Ctrl-Alt-\) to send a QUIT signal, but it's not full-proof because a startup script can trap the signal if it choose to.

I guess I'm left with an RS or TOC from the management proc and then boot into single user mode.

ctrl \ and clrt-alt-\ is I suppose to skip the running script and it moves forward.
Does not actually stops the booting.

to abort i may have to just reset the power.

What exactly you are trying to achieve here.
