Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

Dear all
Pls confirm if a disk already in use with legacy method (using VXVM) & accidentially formatted the disk with
pvcreate - f /dev/rdisk/diskx using agile naming (command displayed successfully created with LVM . Does it affect the existing disk with legacy /dev/rdsk/(cxtxdx).

Re: Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

i suppse its just name
diskX or cxtxdx

whatever command you would run it would work on the disk.

WHat is the situation here...u have disk in VxVM and u run pvcreate -f is it?

did pvcreate run successfully, did it throw any error.
what does
vxdisk list shows after ovcreate.

BR,
Kapil+

Re: Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

Yes the disk is in VXVM (/dev/rdsk/cxtxdx) & run pvcreate -f /dev/rdisk/diskx in agile and it ran successfully.
vxdisk list shows disk is in vxvm only. i suspect the header is overwriten or may be reboot will destroy the file system ? is there any way to revert back or any solution.

Re: Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

which command is that??
it should be smthing like

# /usr/lib/vxvm/diag.d/vxprivutil list /dev/rdsk/c1t9d0s2
diskid: 1200476292.21.quest61
group: name=oradg id=1200475242.18.quest61
flags: private autoimport cds
hostid: quest61
version: 3.1
iosize: 512
public: slice=2 offset=65792 len=286632832
private: slice=2 offset=256 len=65536
update: time: 1267868776 seqno: 0.70
headers: 0 240
configs: count=1 len=48144
logs: count=1 len=7296

It would show if disk is still there in any VG and if provate region is intact?

Do you havve mirror of this disk.
Please send the output of above 2 commands again.

Re: Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

Hi Kapil below is the output

>/usr/lib/vxvm/diag.d/vxprivutil list /dev/rdsk/c0t0d1
VxVM vxprivutil ERROR V-5-1-1735 scan operation failed:
No such file or directory

Now kindly confirm what will be the recovery plan. Thanks in advance

Re: Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

so the disk is screwed up,
do you have mirror in this volume any other plex,
if yes then recovery process would be pretty simple.

vxprint -thg dg_involved

Can you try to run the command once again to confirm.

#/usr/lib/vxvm/diag.d/vxprivutil dumpconfig /dev/rdsk/c0t0d1

Since you do not have mirror, you can follow the procedure
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/295628.htm

Remember this is for SUN for HPUX it would work fine with little difference.

NOTE:Keep your backup ready before doing any activity to be on safer side.

Re: Agile disk formatted, as the disk was alreay in use with legacy method (VXVM)

I tried the rpocedure and it worked like charm,
well I tried on SUN do not have a HPUX box with VxVM, but its same and it would work.
