Re: Alpha Server ES40 RAID Utility

Hi,
RA200RCU = swxcr raid ctrl
I think you will find that this type of ctrl is NOT supported in any ES/DS system.
You could try configuring the card in an older alphaserver system (AS1000/AS2000/AS2100/AS4000/etc) and then move card back to es40, might work?
Good luck

Re: Alpha Server ES40 RAID Utility

Mark, I got other ctrl and I had success in install it in ES/40, but now the problem is, when the Debian ends the construction and formatation of the boot partition, Debian begins the SO instalation, and in this moment (at the finish of format) apparently the disks has a "refresh", the leds "turn off and after turn on" and the comunication between storage and ES/40 is broken. Debian stops the installation, the installation process dies...
Is it normal?

Re: Alpha Server ES40 RAID Utility

Hi
Are you trying to install debian unix on an es40?
DS/ES alphas only support OpenVMS and TRU64 unix! (and redhat for a while)
Is the failure normal? I have no idea as I have never tried to install debian on a ds/es alpha.
Even more good luck!!

Re: Alpha Server ES40 RAID Utility

Yes, it's possible. I have another ES/40 running debian.

Re: Alpha Server ES40 RAID Utility

Hi,
Not supported and it works/installs OK are two different things!

Not supported means that it has not been tested etc by the vendor to an acceptable level to provide support on "the product".

You have installed it and it works = great but you try getting support from the vendor - any vendor - why "your installation" does / does not work at any stage!!

Sorry, I would not be able to help you anymore.

As I said - good luck!

Re: Alpha Server ES40 RAID Utility

Yes, I do.
I think that is not possible install the OS directly into storage.
I believe that I have to install the SO in the internal disks only (front compartment).
