Alphaserver 1200 - Tru64 unix V4.0 - System Halted with Errors

Hi,

The below are the details about my system:

Alphaserver 1200
OS: Digital Unix V4.0F

Yesterday the system went down to the boot prompt. The following lines are there at the console:

halted CPU 0
halt code = 2

kernel stack not valid halt
PC = fffffc00005a46f8

warning -- hwrpb is invalid
===========================

The system started normally when I gave the boot command. I check all the syslog messages to find out the reason. But I couldn't see any errors in the log files.

Please let me know if I need to provide any other details. I want all help to find out the reasons for the above.

Hi Martin,

Do you know what patch kit you're running ?

If you look at the release notes for patch kit 6 here:

On page 62, there are details on this fix:

"Fixes a problem that caused an incorrect bcache size to be returned to the kernel from the HWRPB. This problem occurred on Professional Workstation 900 and 1000 systems and AlphaServer DS10, DS20, DS20E, ES40, GS80, GS160, and GS320 systems."

This might be your problem...

Just realised you said AlphaServer 1200, which isn't in that list of servers, however given the similarities with a DS20 it may well still be appropriate.
