Anyone have success with Linux on Compaq 6510b

Hello:

Been running XP Pro on the 6510b for 14 months. Have authentic XP Pro Disk with Key. Now it tells me it is not authentic XP. Tired of Microsoft.

Want to know if anyone has success installing Linux (any flavor) on the 6510b? Will greatly appreciate instructions/links.

Thanks

Eric,

Installing any recent OpenSuse/Fedora/Ubuntu should not be a problem, maybe except if you want to access the SD card reader to use your ActivCard.

I've setup both OpenSuse 11.1 and WinXP as boot options in grub. As far as I remember the OpenSuse installation went without problems. I've never tried WLAN though, as I suspect problems to access the ActivCard reader from linux to get the authentication to work. There are some remote access related instructions on http://hpedia.hp.com/index.php/Access-hp but I never had the time to check this. For VPN access, I still use windows :(

Ciao,
Friedl

Friedmund:

Thanks for feedback. Will check on WLAN issue. It is critical for me to have WLAN at home...no data port close to my work desk in apartment.

Thanks again,
Eric

Found this while googling. FYI, HPedia is an internal HP resource.
