I just received an alert from HP about BIND. We have an rx6600 Itanium running hpux 11.31. If I grep for the process 'bind' I get the output below. I read the info on HP's site for overview of BIND but still am unclear about it. I am not familiar with the networking side of the house. Is BIND something that runs continuously or only when creating a telnet session out from the host? From the grep of the bind process it appears that the rpcbind has been running since July 1, is this the daemon for bind? Basically am wondering if this alert is something I need to be concerned about. Do we have an option of using something different from bind, how is this set.
I show the latest version of bind installed.
# what /usr/sbin/named | grep named
/usr/sbin/named:
named 9.3.2 $Revision: 2.0
ps -ef |grep bind
root 1025 1 0 Jul 1 ? 0:00 /usr/sbin/rpcbind
root 14758 22713 0 16:12:54 pts/0 0:00 grep bind
Overview of the BIND Name Service -read
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Re: BIND
Shalom,
BIND is a Internet Name resolution service.
It is software provided on the Core OS and http://software.hp.com
There has been a recent release of BIND due to a new security problem exploited.
What needs to be done is installation of new depots and restart of the named service.

Re: BIND
Thank you, no processes running called 'named'.
