Backup Problem

Hi All Experts,

I installed storage works autoloader 1/8 on hpux systme rx6600 server. i am trying to take backup on tape drive with tar but i unable to take the same. tar cvf /dev/rmt/0m /tmp
error mesg.

with mt command
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m status
error device busy
mt -f /dev/rmt/omnb rew
error : device busy
Through fbackup device /dev/rmt/0m not found

well in my ioscan output all rmt device are showing properly with hw, claimed there is no such isssu with device file.

please help me as earliest.

Try the 0mn device; if that doesnt work...

Have you made sure there is no tape stuck or that the drive may need to be powered off/on?

If that is the default drive then try the command without the -f option

i tried with all options, but can't see the status of drive with mt -f /dev/rmt/0m or 0mn command

i tried with windows server and ran the ltt test, read & write working fine.

any help

Check if a process is not hang on the device

Else, try to delete special files and recreate bu insf -e or insf -H "hardware path"

HI,

1.Try to change the SCSI ID and recretae the device file using insf.

Finallly try with dd command .Also.

Recreating the device file might help. Just check for some stuck processes on your machine by grep'ing the command wich you gave. tar?
Try to take to device offline/ online or try the another device on the machine for in between testing.

now i can see mt status output but not able to take backup.
tar -cvf /dev/rmt/1m /tmp
tar cannot open /dev/rmt/1m (this is the error i get)
