Re: Backup of Integrity VM guest
I read that paper before and our environment seems none of the method ok...
1. no DP or other backup SW
2. no ignite server
3. VM version too old and don't support tape drive on VM guest...
As the doc mention about the LV split/merge, that's why I think the 'dd' lvol may work...
thanks,
Warren.

Re: Backup of Integrity VM guest
I use diferent methods, I have some systems that the virtual disks are lvols, for these systems I do:
from inside the vm:
make_net_recovery(ignite)
DrD clone for the vg00
tsm data backup
from the host:
merge/split for the data lvols
And some servers that have a hole disk as virtual disk, I use flash copy(ds8300 storage) to make a 1 to 1 clone of the disks.
I have tested to restore with the diferent methods and they work fine.
I haven't tried out dd.

Re: Backup of Integrity VM guest
However:
2. no ignite server
-> why not using the host itself?
3. VM version too old and don't support tape drive on VM guest...
-> why not upgrading? If it is too old it is likely unsupported already.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Backup of Integrity VM guest
the host itself does not have enough disk space to hold the VM guest ignite image and that's why it can't be use as the ignite server. The one who setup the server used most of the disks on the guest OS and never think about on the backup/restore....
about the upgrade.... I think it is better to make sure the system can be recovery before doing any changes on it.
Thx,
Warren.
