Re: Backup's

Shalom,

How to take a backup & clone on a external disk...

could u plz give me the step by step instruction to do this please....

dd if=/localdisk of=/externaldisk bs=1024 count=#####

Replace localdisk with a valid disk device, externaldisk with an external disk you have already run pvcreate on. Make the ##### a count big enough to cover the entire contents of the disk.

Re: Backup's

I think that 11.00 can have ignite backup too.

And, have you decided a server as ignite server and does it have ignite installed?

Re: Backup's

Are you sure you have ignite there? Otherwise, you need download and install it there. You might need install all versions ignite there.

Re: Backup's

Right. Although for client, it uses only its respective version. (I think so)

Re: Backup's

@Grayh: please do not take this as critisizm but a friendly advice. You do not seem to grasp the idea of how ignite imaging works. You do not have a tape drive that you can make a bootable tape. You are assuming (my understanding from this whole thread so far) you can clone the system like you do to a windows machine, which by the way is not a valid expectation. Unless you are in a position to use this server migration from one location to another and progress in a leisurely pace, making it a learning experience for you, you are way above your head in water and need to look for a consultant to get this going in a few days.

Having said that, I see one thing that you are considering as an option. L-Class machines, have their OS on removable disks, accessible from the front panel, under smaller side of the pivoting door in front. My advice to you is to find a spare drive that this L-Class machine can accommodate, hpofully you have mirror-ux license, you can increase the number of your mirrors on every vg00 volume by and extra one following the procedure on the HP's "When good disks go bad" paper. Then yank this disk drive out and take it with you to the new server. Slap in the slot where the server automatically booting from. At the end, it is another compatible (if not the same) L-class machine. Turn it on and boot it. Once the system is alive, readjust your IP addresses and whatnot which are different, before plugging in the peripherals.
