Is there any perfect performance and diagnostic tool for hpunix which will help us troubleshoot and take periodic reports of the key system parameters like memory utilization, cpu utilisation etc in the form of reports periodically.
If there is something that can read all unix flavours, please suggest that too.
thanks!!
regards,
sanwin

Re: Best performance analysis tool or diagnostic tool for hpunix
when you buy glance plus you get a measureware agent. Measureware does not have a GUI but it collects about 400 metrics every 5 minute and summarizes them.
By default you will probably be able to collect 3-4 months of data and if you configure it with more than 150 MB you can collect more.
Glance data can be reported on using the extract command
extract -xp -Gg -b today-2 -e today -f /tmp/report.txt
You might need a wide screen to view it.
You can generate a report of only certain metrics using a report template.
You can also generate reports from measureare using Performance Manager or Performance Insight ($$$$) but they are good.
Measureware can be installed for 60 days and it functions. same with Performance Manager and PI. If you dont like it uninstall it.

Re: Best performance analysis tool or diagnostic tool for hpunix
As mentioned GlancePlus and OVPA (aka MeasureWare Agent) is the way to go. You can specify or customise what the OVPA should look at or collect data and even group the resources (e.g. CPU) used by a set of processes belonging to an application.
Regarding 'sar' does anyone know how accurate is the stats presented?
Cheers
