Best practices question for vg00

Hello-
I am in the process of documenting our server build standards. On the HP servers I support, we keep vg00 purely for the o/s and monitoring tools. We do not allow any application or database data in vg00.

I did not design these servers so I do not know if this is an HP best practice or if is some rule that someone here invented.

Any thoughts?

Re: Best practices question for vg00

Shalom,

vg00 is the boot volume.

Best practices IMHO is that no user data go on vg00.

vg00 should be backed up with Ignite, either make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery.

This enables quick recovery of the server in case of a bad patch set or hard disk problem. If you have user data in vg00 this makes life much harder.
