BiosConfigUtility for Linux ?

I look for a solution to change the bios settings under Linux (on xw8600, z400, z800).

Is there something like BiosConfigUtility for Linux ?

Anyone, already do this ? Or have another way to do this ?

Thanks

Re: BiosConfigUtility for Linux ?

Shalom,

Bios utilities are built into the hardware. You boot the box and hit a function key to get in to that functionality.

Hi,

depending on what you want to do, you can use tools like http://www.flashrom.org/Flashrom or

http://www.pixelbeat.org/docs/bios.

If you are not confident, I would avoid using these utilities. Also, most changes you make would require you to reboot anyway, so not sure what you are trying to acheive.

Re: BiosConfigUtility for Linux ?

Hello Steven, hello Matt,

thanks for the answers.

No, I don't want to flash the BIOS eprom.
I want to be able to determine, if possible change the state of BIOS settings like 'OS power management' out of a running (Linux-) system.

Re: BiosConfigUtility for Linux ?

This depends on the actual settings you wish to manipulate.

For example, "OS Power Management" would be a *very* BIOS manufacturer-specific setting.

On the other hand, if you can successfully use ACPI in Linux, the setting is either already enabled, or it is overrideable by the OS *and* Linux has already overridden it.

Look into /proc/acpi: do you see ACPI information in there?
