Re: Boot from SAN

Just present a LUN to the server and install the OS on it.

This is very similar to a local disk installation.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Boot from SAN

This question requires a lot more details. There are many different SAN disks and they are all very different in how they are configured. Almost every SAN disk array requires that you configure storage with HP-UX options. But there are some SAN disks that will not work as boot disks for HP-UX. You must verify that HP-UX boot capability is available with this SAN. Your storage administrator should be able to configure bootable disks for you. When the disk is configured properly, then the code on the installation DVD will see the SAN disks.

Re: Boot from SAN

1.) Read the WWN number of your HBA from the label on the HBA card.

2.) Contact your SAN administrator.

3.) Say something like: "Please present a disk sized gigabytes, to WWN number . The OS will be HP-UX ." to him/her.

NOTE: In terms of SAN configuration, HP-UX 11.31 (and newer) is different from HP-UX 11.23 (and older). It is very important that the SAN administrator knows the HP-UX version so that s/he can select the correct configuration options at the storage side.

4.) If the SAN administrator needs more information about your server, provide it.

5.) When the SAN administrator says the disk has been presented, boot your HP-UX server from installation media. The installation program should see the SAN disk just like any other disk.

6.) Follow the normal installation instructions.

Re: Boot from SAN

Boot from installe DVD - this will scan the SAN. Once the connection is zoned, present the LUN, let the installer scan again and install.

Hope this helps!
