CDE Login hangs

Moin,
I know, there have been a lot of therads about this issue.
My problem is the following:
- changed the IP-address
- nslookup possible
- CDE login screen appears
--> After entering username and password the CDE screen hangs!!
- error in /var/dt/Xerrors:
Warning: Cannot convert string ":Alt CtrlInsert" to type VirtualBinding

Has somebody an idea, what could be wrong ??
Thanks
Thomas

Re: CDE Login hangs

Files to check :

/etc/hosts : Is the IP-adress of the host correct in this file ?

/var/adm/inetd.sec : If IP-adresses have been entered here, check if they need to be modified.

Are there error logs in directory /var/dt ?

Re: CDE Login hangs

Make sure that you can ping from the server to the client and vice versa. Make sure that the correct ip address resolves to some kind of hostname.

I know it sounds like you have done this but please check as this is by far the most common cause for this kind of thing. Particularly since you have just changed the IP addres of something (not sure what though).

Re: CDE Login hangs

Hi,

Check nslookup for both hostname and IP-address of the DISPLAY host.
If there is a conformity in the data, check whether in user's environment the variable DISPLAY is defined and it points onto old IP-address.
Also you can check your X environment by /usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt

Re: CDE Login hangs

Since you are getting Login Screen and u r able to enter login name and password it seems that you are able to see the server and resolve it.
I doubt there is some problem at server end.
(Mostly with the configuration).

Re: CDE Login hangs

Thanks, for the help it works now.
I changed some values back in /sbin/rc2.d:
100nfs.server
430nfsclient
420nis.client
410nis.server
408nisplus.client
406nisplus.server
400nfs.core

But I don't understand it???!!!

Re: CDE Login hangs

Thomas,

This is why I always use /sbin/set_parms to modify hostname/ip_address. With set_parms you can be sure that all the places that might possibly be affected will be updated with the new info, thus avoiding this type of problem.
