CIFS -- mounting a windows directory from HP-UX and getting ^M in scripts

I am trying to install some backup software that is located in a windows folder. I used cifs to mount the folder and when I attempt to run the scripts from the folder (mounted in HP-UX 11.23) there are ^M characters in the scripts (and maybe all files). I had the same issue when I copied the data from the windows folder to HP-UX (using pscp). Is it possible to get cifs or hp-ux to ignore the ^M?

i don't believe you can get cifs to ignore the ^M, and I know hpux won't. see bill h's response in the link above.

depending on where / how the software was obtained, downloading it again, or ftp'ing it might fix the issue.

interop of plain-text can be a headache, especially if you intend to create files on one OS and process on the other.

So would all files have the ^M or just the ascii files (shell scripts)?

Those ^M will be in ascii files only as they have line forward and carriage return.
