Re: CPU Count Limits HP-UX 11.31 VSOE ? or Am I having iCAP issues?
Did this box have iCAP on it, or are you just surmising that?
I hope it didn't as re-creating the genesis partition is specifically forbidden on systems with iCAP on them (as it wipes out the iCAP data in NVRAM)
If the system had iCAP on it, you can go and check at www.hp.com/go/icap/portal - in there you can enter the system serial number and see if it had iCAP assigned.
If it did have iCAP, you'll need to get a support call open to recreate all the iCAP data correctly

also you have checked that the cell board in question actually has some memory on it? The CPUs can't be used if there is no memory on the board (although I susepct it wouldn't join the partition if that were the case)

Re: CPU Count Limits HP-UX 11.31 VSOE ? or Am I having iCAP issues?
This usually means they are ICAP. You can either purchase the licenses to activate then permanently or get TiCAPs (temporary licenses). If I remenber correctly you can go to the activation site and get a free 30 day trial. NOTE: That is a total of 720 hours for all the cpus in any combo. Not 720 per cpu.

Re: CPU Count Limits HP-UX 11.31 VSOE ? or Am I having iCAP issues?
You used
CPUconfig [
right?
If you use
> in all
from main menu, what do you get?
Example:
PROCESSOR INFORMATION
Cab/ Processor
Cell Slot CPU Speed HVERSION SVERSION CVERSION State
---- ---- --- -------- -------- -------- -------- --------------
0 0/0 0 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Active
1 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
2 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
3 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
2 0/2 0 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
1 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
2 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
3 875 MHz 0x5ea0 0x0491 0x0301 Idle
Partition Total Cells: 2
Partition Total Processors: 8
Partition Active Processors: 8
Partition Deconfigured Processors: 0
...
IIRC iCAP CPUs have a unique status there.
Any related logs in GSP/MP during the boot?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: CPU Count Limits HP-UX 11.31 VSOE ? or Am I having iCAP issues?
Yes I did a CPUconfig.
Then from BCH went to OS boot. Then parstatus still showed those CPUs as deconfigured.
Dropped back to BCH. Did a CPUconfig and checked the CPUs are "configured" in not flagged to be configured on next reboot as was teh case prior the CPUconfig'ing ON.
So what I've done next was to do an RS as the message did say to perform a "hard reboot" (is going from BCH after doing a CPUconfig ON considered a hard reset?) but now all I see are just 3 Cell boards !?
IN ALL shows now just 3 Cell boards man...
Still looking at the SEL logs though

You did a "rs" or "rr"?
Was there a pending reconfiguration request?
What does the MP command "cp" return?
A full "parstatus" (attach!) would be nice now.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

But another RS fixed the issue (or should I be worried?) All Cells are now seen.
Am now booting and we'll see if I now have 52 CPUs
