CVSDM issues

I had to reinstall CVSDM 1.09.02 on one of my HP servers due to a crash. The system is an RP7420 running hp-ux 11.11

The install went perfectly no errors/warnings reported.

However if I run:
# armdiscover
This could take several minutes ...

Failed to obtain remote database interface to host: localhost

none of my arm command work at all..... anyone have any thoughts?

Re: CVSDM issues

Is the SDM service running? Or did you even install the CVSDM server?

CVSDM is a two fileset product client and server. Run

swlist -l fileset |grep SDM

and post the output.

Re: CVSDM issues

Yes services are running.

Yes I installed both files-sets.
# swlist -l fileset | grep SDM
# HPCVVACLI 1.09.02 hp StorageWorks Command View SDM - VA client
# HPCVVASVR 1.09.02 hp StorageWorks Command View SDM - va server

Re: CVSDM issues

The old database may still be there form the previous installation. Do the two steps in the 4th reply from the bottom in
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=641446

The DeviceDBFile is not part of the fileset and does not get deleted during an swremove so you may be still using the old dbfile with the new install.

Re: CVSDM issues

TTR, I already took those steps (to no avail)right after I did the re-install.

Re: CVSDM issues

You should have two SDM server processes running, they are java jobs running out of /opt/sanmgr/jre/bin/PA_RISC2.0/java
Verify that they are running.

Check if there are any cvsdm errors in the sylog.

Ensure that there were no errors when you swinstall-ed cvsdm

If all else fails, uninstall both cvsdm server and client, *delete* the /opt/sanmgr directory tree and reinstall the cvsdm server and client.

Before re-installing also delete the /var/opt/sanmgr and /etc/opt/sanmgr directory trees.

Re: CVSDM issues

Update:

I had to go out of town to work on a production system so I am back now and on task to fix this.

I stopeed the dialers renamed DeviceDBFile and started the dialer again and the error "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread" appeared when I tried to run armdiscover........

I did a search for this error, but it all looks like a foreign language to me. Idea's?
