This morning, someone asked a qustion for me: can we create a Vmware Virtual HP-UX server? I'm not sure yes or no (I think it should be NO).
OS: HP-UX 11i v1,
Vmware ESX version: v3.0 will upgrade to v3.5
ESX host hardware mode: HP Blade p-class and C-class, HP DL3xx.
I know, HP-UX OS runs on 64-bit HP9000 PA-RISC platform and HP Itanium. I think, if I assign some HP Itanium machines as the VMware ESX hosts then probably we could create a virutal HP-UX server, not sure Vmware ESX support HP-UX guest or not. Our Vmware admin said, he could turn the HP Blade/DL3xx box to 64-bit from 32-bit ... ?
I just wondering see if in that 64 bit environment, could I create a virutal HP-UX server? Does Itanium Integrity systems work or not?
Any answers will be very appreciate!

SolutionNow, the response is of course NO.
Vmware does support a lot of cpu but not itanium.

Hpux will not be ported on x86 too.
Hope it helps

Re: Can I create a VMware Virutal HP-UX server?
The only way to do virtual machines on Itanium is to make the host OS HP-UX and HP-UX HPVM software.
It is a pretty good solution.

Re: Can I create a VMware Virutal HP-UX server?
As others said, you can use Integrity Virtual
Machines to do it.
Here is an example of what I run for students
in HP Edu labs in Australia (virtual machines are HP-UX 11.31, Red Hat ES 5.1,
Red Hat ES 5.3, and Microsoft Windows
2003 server; later next week I will
add SuSE 11):
AUDIT-INFO: VM status

vm-hpuxv3b 2 HPUX On (OS) 1 2 2 2 GB 0
vm-rhel51 5 LINUX On (OS) 1 7 2 2 GB 0

Re: Can I create a VMware Virutal HP-UX server?
Thank you very very much for your good informations and hyperlinks.
It's possible to create a virutal HP-UX server in Itanium machine Integrity sytem, that's great!
I will check the doc soon.
Thanks again.
Have a good day.
