Can I upgrate?

Hello,friends.

Today I have server HP9000 rp 5470 with processor PA8700.
On this server installed HP-UX 11v0 and ORACLE 9.2.0.8.

I need install oracle 10.2. To do this I must upgrate HP-UX on 11.23.

Can anybody to consult me,how correct do it?

That is a big an interesting document.

My recollection is that the rp5450 is with current firmware able to run HP-UX 11.23.

I would recommend a cold install versus upgrade-ux, which would require two upgrades to get you to 11.23 and not really provide much benefit.

The document, which I took a look at says to see the rx5450 server. I went the hp performance center to run DR tests in 2004 and part of the "show" was an explanation that there was a conversion kit, a motherboard replacement, which would make the system Itanium, an rx5450.

My first look at the document referred to an rx5450 when I searched for rp5450. I don't know if this conversion kit is still available.

I think as the day wears on you will probably find a rp5450 user or two that pipes in and says you can install 11.23 on this system.

you cannot download HP-UX, you need to request the OS media from HP if you have a contract.
If not you will have to purchase it.
Yu should read the Read Me Before Installing or Updating HP-UX for 11.23, and I agree your best bet is to re-install.

Do not upgrade. To upgrade you would have to first go to 11.11 and then 11.23

Do a cold install and set new sizes for all file systems. I do nt believe you have a good disk layout and the upgrade will fail at some point.

Cold install is when you stick a 11.23 DVD in the DVD drive, boot the system and do an installation. Cold install wipes out everything that was on the disk. Installation and cold installation is the same thing in my book. I was comparing this to upgrade, which uses update-ux which I recommend you NOT do.

Yes. Back them up before proceeding so you have them as a reference.

POint is that I have installes SAP. I can't crash it.

This will require downtime to do on an rp5470 server.

A better course is to purchase a new server, build it as 11.23 in a careful fashion and do a cut over to the new system after planning and careful acceptance testing.

The oracle data conversion alone is enough to make me not want to update-ux/upgrade in place. Doing an upgrade involves days of downtime.

Here is the document to assist you getting to version 11.23. It will give you all the info you need from what firmware level, what sizing for vg00 and the rest.

When I upgraded I printed it, and used it to make and keep my notes in it.
I used the update-ux (went from 11v1 to 11v2) and found it worked much better. Only point I ran into was - adjust your file system sizes BEFORE, as the newer DVD's didn't give you the option (even running the interactive option) to change the sizes during the install.
