Can auto-activating volume groups be disabled

HPUX 11.11 Is there a file I can modify to prevent volume groups from being activated (vgchange -a -n /dev/vgxxxx) at boot-up?

Re: Can auto-activating volume groups be disabled

Yes. The file is /etc/lvmrc.

edit the file and set the 'AUTO_VG_ACTIVATE' option to 0 (that is a zero).

If there are some VGs you want activated, then scroll down the script to the "custom_vg_activate" section. There you can add commands for VG's that should be activated.

You should add VG00 to this section.

The syntax is:

/sbin/vgchange -a y /dev/vg00

If there are other options to vgchange, then you can add those as well.

Hi Frederick,

Yes. the file /etc/lvmrc control's the activation of the volume groups.

In the file you can find a general activation parameter ( AUTO_VG_ACTIVATE=0 or 1) and a custom_vg_activation section.

Just as a note for anyone reading this who doesn't know... This is commonly done on serviceguard clusters to prevent nodes auto activating volume groups that are active on another node.
