Cannot See lun presented from Xp2400

Hi All

Do we realy need to reboot hpux 11.23/11.31 Box to see luns presented for first time from new Xp24000 storage ?

we have connected new xp24000 in our environment and assigned luns to hosts ,but host cannot see luns .if I reboot host it can see luns and then onwards host can see new luns from xp24000 with out reboot .

so my question is do we need a reboot for seeing luns for first time from new storage ?

# insf
# ioscan -fnC disk

even ioscan -fC ctl does not showing xp24000 controller .

NO.

did you/storage guy presented luns to the server ,in that case s/he will present you some information with "CU:LDEV" number , which you can use to identify XP Lun as below:
(assuming 01:0F|01:10|01:11 is CU:LDEV number"
xpinfo -i |grep -iE "01:0F|01:10|01:11"

ioscan will NOT show any information of 24K controller.

But ioscan should show xp24000 controller. But i can't see that also .

xpinfo is only showing my old storage luns

Hi,

As of my knowledge on an 11.23 operating system you will require a reboot to see those LUNs. However, as dynamic discovery is a critical feature of 11.31, instance numbers and device files can automatically be generated by the execution of ioscan and the LUNS can be seen at LUN creation time. But on 11.23 as of my knowledge you would have to give a reboot. This is one of the advantages of the v3 operating system.

Yes - that has been our experience with 11.11 to 11.31. First time StorageWorks Array (EVA abd XP) presentation to a currently UP HP-UX server does not work. After a reboot it works and subsequent online presentation works.

I have not understood exactly why BUT it's been pur experience. However AMS, Thunder and Lightning Hitachi arrays are always FIRST seen sans a reboot. Ditto with IBM SVC LUNs....
