Changing root password on IA 11.23

Hi,

While trying to change root password, it is asking me to enter old password.

I tried modprmodprpw -k root but still it is same.

It is a trusted system.

I understand this behaviour is because of trusted mode. Just wondering whether it is possible to change root password without entering old password.

Thanks.

Hi

You cannot change the root passwd without supplying the old passwd.
# /usr/lbin/modprpw -k root is use to re-activate the root account on the console when the root account has been suspended in a trusted mode.

Yes you can change the password without providing the old password.

Here are the steps.

1) login the the server with the current password.

2) go to /tcb/files/auth/r

3) edit the file root

make the second line look like this

:u_pwd=:\

4) Save the file.

5) Change the password. It will not ask you the old password.

Thanks,
Nair
