Clone a DR server BL860C with HP-UX 11.31

Hi,

I want to find a way to clone a HP-UX 11.31 system with least impact to the source server. Here is my situation:

Source production server: HP-UX 11.31, BL870C blade.

need to build DR server: HP-UX 11.31, BL860C blade.

I can use Golden image but it requires stopping application because some interfaces will go back to default and reset back.  Other ways I am thinking:

1. BL870C blade has 4 disk slots, only 2 are used (use Smart Arry??). I can Insert 3rd disk and add it to vg00 as mirror disk then break the mirror and boot the BL860C using this mirrored disk.

2. Can I use smart array "feature", to pull 1 disk out and insert a new disk to rebulid  so I can use 1 disk to boot my BL860C blade?

3. Make a Ignite recovery image of the production server (not golden image). This does not require application down. Can I use this image to build the DR server if I put the DR server on the network? What files need to modify so that the image will be treated like golden image?

4. Any suggestion to add SAN disk as mirror disk and boot the DR server BL860C from SAN disk? Not sure if diff HW works here.

 Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Lucy

First:

You DON'T have a smart array controller. For sure.

I would probably use DRD to clone the root disk to a new disk in an empty slot.

After transferring this disk to the other server, adjust hostname and IP.

(start in single user and run set_parms)

Hope this helps!

Yes, DRD is the way to go I think. Does it need to purchase?
