Configuring modems since functionality not available in SMH

I am accustomed to configuring modems within SAM. With SMH, Configuring Peripherals is no longer existent. I have reviewed doc which references the insf and mksf commands are to be used as the substitute. I am not familiar with these commands; can someone provide guidance? I need to configure modems connected to RS232 port module that are used for dial-in and dial-out.

Which port module are you trying to install and on which version of HP-UX?

My OS is HP-UX 11i v3.
I am attempting to configure 16 DB-25 modem ports on mux unit on hardware path 0/0/1/2

I haven't used tool this but take a look at # shm -F from an xdisplay session (# man pdweb) and see if that will help.

I submitted a software ticket and was directed to try this command which did indeed create the device files:
mksf -v -d pci_mux1 -H x/x/x/x -a1 -p yy
where x/x/x/x is the hardware path and
yy corresponds to the port number
-a1 creates the cul device files for dial-out modems and
-a2 creates the ttyd device files for dial-in
