DEAD Paths on hp-ux 11.31

Hello,

After the issue with SAN switch we have dead paths on my rx8640 frame.

So far we have done ioscan, insf and also rebooted the server but no luck.

when I run powermt display command, I see the the paths are "degraded".

Does any one has any better suggestion to get this dead path in re-sync?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Regards,

MJ

"powermt display"... so you have PowerPath installed?

Have you tried "powermt config"? Perhaps your SAN switch issue has caused the paths related to that switch to show as "new", and the corresponding old paths remain "dead" because they refer to a switch/configuration that no longer exists. The "powermt config" command will both include the new paths to PowerPath configuration, and remove the old paths.

On HP-UX 11.31, you might also try "rmsf -x" to remove any stale I/O nodes at the OS level.

Re: DEAD Paths on hp-ux 11.31

Have you tried running:

powermt check
...and say 'a' to clean up dead links

The run command again and see if it runs with no errors. If it runs clean then run:
powermt config
powermt save

Just a thought,

Re: DEAD Paths on hp-ux 11.31

These are the errors that I get in syslog and during reboot.

emcp:Mpx:Error: All paths to Symm 00010546041 vol 0ac3 are dead.
emcp:Mpx:Error: Symm 00010546041 vol 0ac3 is dead.

Also, some of these paths are live define in lvmtab so I little worried of doing the rmsf.

Thanks in advance.

Re: DEAD Paths on hp-ux 11.31

Hi,

Just one thing, if you had a 11.31 O.S, there would be absolutely no need for you to worry about this because the O.S automatically takes care of "Lunpath failover" and "lunpath recovery". You would probably never face this issue on 11.31 because of the somewhat awesome feature of "native multipathing" on 11.31.
