Re: DNS Linux & hp-ux

I would prefer to use, HPUX method :)

By checking some Manual's / Docs for DNS configuration in HPUX 11.23

Check below Thread.

Re: DNS Linux & hp-ux

Different Linux distributions may have different methods for configuring DNS, and many distributions will have multiple DNS configuration methods available (manual creation of configuration files + various script/GUI/web tools like Webmin).

So without knowing what _your_ Linux DNS configuration method is, the question cannot be answered exactly.

The HP-UX standard DNS server daemon is a version of ISC BIND, ported to HP-UX environment. BIND is also available in most Linux distributions, but there may also be other DNS server implementations available (like djbdns).

The default BIND version in HP-UX 11.11 is considerably older than the ones available in most current versions of Linux: most Linux distributions have been using BIND 9.x for quite a while now, but the default BIND for 11.11 is version 8.1.2 (with a lot of back-ported patches included).

Note that the configuration of BIND 8.x is somewhat different from the BIND 9.x configuration. The documentation written for BIND 9.x may not be entirely applicable.

Optionally, you can download and install a much more modern version of BIND for 11.11 from software.hp.com (it's free):

Because old 8.x BIND versions are known to have security weaknesses, installing the updated version is recommended for serious use.
