DST Question HPUX 11.0 servers

Hi,

We are planning to power down our two HPUX servers (MC/SG) this weekend. The servers are going to be powered on after Daylight Savings Time (after 2:00AM on Sunday). Question: Will the servers automatically change their DST? (switch the clock back one hour).

10 points to any answer.
Thank you

Re: DST Question HPUX 11.0 servers

Hi Gino:

You really should have to do nothing! The Daylight Saving transitions (Spring or Fall) do NOT change the actual time. Time in Unix is measured in ever-increasing seconds since January 1, 1970 UTC.

The concept of Daylight Saving Time is a change in the positive or negative offset of you LOCAL time from UTC (or GMT, if you prefer, thought UTC is really correct).

See the manpages for 'cron' :

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60130/cron.1M.html

...in particular, the section titled "Spring and Autumn Time Transitions" for more information.

Regards!

Re: DST Question HPUX 11.0 servers

If the ONLY reason for the "power down" is the DST change, you don't need to do that.

If its for other reasons, like scheduled maint., then it won't hurt anything, the DST rules will apply on restart.
