Holy S!!! - Another year has passed.
Question: Does anyone no the answer to the above. For example, in HPUX there is /usr/newconfig/etc/group that can be refered to. But I need the same for Linux.
Question: What are the default system groups in Linux? Red Hat.

Solution
The list of default system users and groups for RHEL 6 is available in the RHEL 6 Deployment Guide. Search for chapters titled "Standard Users" and "Standard Groups".
Likewise in RHEL 5.
In RHEL 4 and older, the documentation was arranged in a different way: the correct document for RHEL 4 is the Reference Guide. The names of the chapters are the same.
These documents can all be found in the docs.redhat.com website.
