Our customer received a new rp3440 server ; HP-UX 11i v3 (Base OE Sept 2008) was already installed.
In order to use GUI on console , I connected a PCI adapter card AH391A in slot 4 , installed and configured into kernel Xserver patch and gvid patch ; also i installed CDE bundle from HPUX 1ii v3 Base OE.
The CDE was started normally on console but when logging on using root/password ,we are getting the following error :
"The Desktop messaging system coult not be started " and we should log out.
Please could some one help me.
Regards
Roger

SolutionIt could be due to name resolution most often.
Do you have /etc/nsswitch.conf file? if not create one by using this command.
# cp /etc/nsswitch.files /etc/nsswitch.conf
Modify nsswitch.conf if you have dns server like below.
hosts: files [NOTFOUND=continue] dns
You can also run the below script to find out the possible causes.
#/usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt

Re: Desktop messaging system not started
>> This error you might get if there is an issue with name resolution
Please see that the name resolution with the hostname and the IP address is happening properly
Also edit /etc/nsswitch.conf and have the following entries
hosts: files dns
ipnodes: files dns
