Device File Naming

According to standard naming convention of HP_UNIX why device file created for LUN assign from EMC SAN storage is different can any tell me.

Re: Device File Naming

Shalom,

The last digit in the string 0/5/1/0/4/0.2.116.0.0.0.3 is the LUN number.

The assignment has to do with the I/O slot number that the HBA card is inserted in.

For more information, look up your server hardware layout at http://docs.hp.com

Re: Device File Naming

Hi,

Where is the difference? I don't see any difference. "d" represents the lun number and "t" represents the target and "c" represents the instance number.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: Device File Naming

your question is not very clear but if you are asking why you do not have s1, s2 and so on at the end of the device file descriptors for your EMC provided LUNs, it is because only the boot disks have the s1,s2, etc. added to them to designate slices. The boot disks need to be partitioned on the integrity servers.

HPUX is installed in the s2 slice if I am not mistaken. Have not build and integrity system for a while. Hence the information is a bit rusty.

Can you explain you question better? I don't understand what you are asking.

Re: Device File Naming

Shalom

c is controller followed by a number
d is disk followed by a number.

The patterns you see are to accommodate large numbers of LUNS.

I agree however your question is a bit confusing. A little time spent clarifying might get you better answers.
