Difference in Number of Sockets in same model of server

Hi All

I am having two server with same model, but the Number of Enabled sockets is different. Please let me know what exact the terminology "Number of Sockets" Means, and how to enable one more sockets in host as07p04.

as07p04:/root # machinfo|more
CPU info:
   Number of CPUs = 32
Number of enabled CPUs = 2
Number of enabled sockets = 1

as08p04:/root # machinfo|more
CPU info:
   Number of CPUs = 32
Number of enabled CPUs = 2
Number of enabled sockets = 2

Model of the server: ia64 hp server rx8640

Are you running a HP Instant Capacity product on either server?

What HP-UX version are you running?

A socket contains the chip.  It can have multiple CPUs per socket.  machinfo should have mentioned that:

   Cores per socket = #

Please provide the full machinfo output.

This implies you have 15 disabled sockets?

Please send a "icapstatus" of both servers.

Hope this helps!
