Different systems, applications errors log locations on hp-ux

Hi all,

Can someone provide me listing of all systems, and applications error log file names along with their path location on hp-ux to troubleshoot day to day issues if any ?

There is /var/adm/syslog/. For the SD utilities there is /var/adm/sw/.
There are also logs for cron, lp, mail, utmp, etc in other places.

User applications can have their own logs.

Hi Manoj,

U will get all the system logs in file
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
All the swinstall log u will find in the file /var/adm/sw/swagent.log
All ur system events will be mailed to system in /var/mail.

Hi,
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log is the main log file.If the system reboot, the new log file starts and previous one will be become Oldsyslog.
Also check logs in /var/opt/resmon/log dir.
dmesg command also shows error messages if any.

System LOG :- /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

MAIL Log :- /var/adm/syslog/mail.log

DNS Server ;- /var/adm/syslog/named.log

Hardware Events ;- /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log

Software Installation :- /var/adm/sw/swinstall.log
/var/adm/sw/swagent.log

SU log :- /var/adm/sulog

Printer Daemon :- /var/adm/lp/lpd.log

Audit Log :- Check use "audsys" command

Cron log :- /var/adm/cron/log

Dataprotector :- /var/opt/omni/log/debug.log
