Directory chechsum error

Hi All
I have a problem, i was in the process of restoring my SAP DEV box from a Production tape, then it compalined about a path in the restore script that i was using. I edited the script then when i tired to run the command tar -tvf PRD-NODE0000.scr it started giving me the error directory chesum error. i am on hp-ux 11.23 and db2 database.
Thank you

Re: Directory chechsum error

can you try or check with "options" -i
sometime "tar cannot look into the symbolic links

or tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0

Re: Directory chechsum error

"tar" sometimes says "directory checksum
error" when some I/O error occurs, or when
it's confused in any way by the contents of
the archive.

Is the actual error message a secret, or
could you share it?

> [...] I edited the script [...]

That explains approximately nothing.

Showing the actual commands you're using with
their actual output is often more helpful
than vague descriptions and interpretations.

Are you using the same "tar" program to
create the tape and to read the tape?

Re: Directory chechsum error

Did you rewind the tape? Did you compress/gzip it when you wrote it?

Re: Directory chechsum error

Are you sure backup was completed properly.
checksum error suggest some problem in making tar.

well are you getting any good output for
tar tvf file.tar.

Hi Guys
Thanks so much for your prompt response, i finally got it right, the problem was withn the tar image on the tape, i had to do another offline backup and recreate the control file and all worked fine.
