Disk Mirroring.

Hi,

I am not able to boot the server using the primary disk. Hence, the disk has been removed physically and the server was booted using the secondary disk.
Now, i need to sync the primary disk back.
Please help me with the below queries when i insert the same disk which was removed earlier:

1) Will it be start automatic disk synching with primary ?

2) Any data loss on the secondary disk

3) Procedure to replace the Primary disk and synching with the secondary disk

Regards,
Sagar.

Re: Disk Mirroring.

Hi Sagar:

See:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad_WP.pdf

There are slightly different procedures for PA-RISC versus Itanium servers. Pay attention.

Regards!

Re: Disk Mirroring.

Hi James,

Thanks for the responce. The document doesnt deal with this scenario. Th eproblem i am facing is all my LV's in VG00 are in stale condition as lvreduce was not done before removing teh disk physiaclly.
I wonder if teh server starts the disk sysncing as soon as i insert the new disk and are there any problems or data loss that i may face due to this.

Thanks,
Sagar.

Re: Disk Mirroring.

Hi Saqi,

>> Now, i need to sync the primary disk back.
Is this a new disk? The earlier disk may be bad.

If the disk is hot swappable, you can plug it while server is running.
After that, do "vgcfgrestore" on this (new) disk. (you may require "pvchange" to enable the disk for IO).
Then do,
- reactivate (vgchange -a y vg00)
or
- vgsync vg00
or
- lvsync

Any one one of above should sync the pri disk to the secondary disk.

No data loss as far as sec disk is good.

Don't fix what ain't broke
