Disk Quotas in Linux

Hi Gurus,
Can I implement disk quotas while disk usage is already 80%
There are 36 users already using the server, I want to create 4 new groups and add 9 users to each group, then configure quotas for the groups.

rgds,
Troy

Re: Disk Quotas in Linux

Shalom Troy,

Always helpful to know which distribution of Linux we're talking about.

Here is how to do it on RHEL

http://books.google.com/books?id=wSKQz503C5MC&pg=PA293&lpg=PA293&dq=quota+configuration+red+hat+linux&source=bl&ots=Gxttf40y6y&sig=sW6VQLPtRxS9_6cOqUupGvtd4mE&hl=en&ei=HGEBS7ziNc-lnQeVntyMCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CBYQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=quota%20configuration%20red%20hat%20linux&f=false

What an awful looking link.

Re: Disk Quotas in Linux

Hi Troy,
Yes you can. once you are done users already exceeded the quota will get warnings and will not be able to write files to the share.

suggest you do a testing first on a dummy linux box or virtual machine if you are not comfortable with disk quotas.

Good Luck...!
