Re: Display issue

did you tried any software like hummingbird,Xmanager you can not just export display and think it would open from your putty session.

Get some software and try it out, there is nothing wrong in what you doing just missing one big point :)

Which "putty"? On _what_?

Do you mean using SSH?

echo $DISPLAY

How, exactly?

How, exactly?

"It doesn't work" is not a useful problem
description. It does not say what you did.
It does not say what happened when you did
it.

Showing actual commands with their actual
output can be more helpful than vague
descriptions and interpretations.

Which X server software have you installed?
Did you start it?

Re: Display issue

You can use some X packages like XManager on your client (Windows)

The run XPassive

Connect to your HP-UX server with putty (Telnet os SSH)

Set DISPLAY variable to IP of your client:
#export DISPLAY=IP_of_client:0.0

To check X availability :
#xclock

Then you run sam in graphical mode:
#sam

Re: Display issue

Do you have Xming running in your Window? You can down load it from Web and install it. Of course you need to start it too. When you have X11 forwarding enabled, you shouldn't set any export display as the Display already set up as localhost:10.0 for you when you login.

Also, you can not su to any other account otherwise it won't work either.
