Do we need to create the separate switch for each VM on Integrity VM?

Hi All,

I have some questions on managing VMs.

1)Do we need to create the separate switch for each VM on Integrity VM?

2)What is the advantage and disadvantage of having separate switch for each VMs?

3)Is it mandatory that we have to have single switch for all VMs?

4)My host is having two NICs, i have assigned IP to one NIC of host, it is used to access the host, at this situation, can i use same NIC for VMs or can i use other NIC, what is the advantage and disadvantage?

Re: Do we need to create the separate switch for each VM on Integrity VM?

1) no

2) more switches = more physical NICs = more performance

3) no

4) you can "share" a NIC between host and guests ==> see 2)

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

No.
1 NIC = 1 vSwitch

Think about physical switches. You connect each server to this physical switch. This makes a small network. Same for virtual switches. ;-)

Hope this helps!

each VM can have a lan card on a single switch.

SO you have 1 nic card, create a virtual switch on that nic and define 2 VMs each having a NIC on that virtual switch. Each virtual nic has its own mac address
